Record 85,837 Political Crimes Hit Germany in 2025, Far-Right Leads

(MENAFN) Germany recorded an unprecedented 85,837 politically motivated crimes in 2025, with far-right offenses accounting for roughly half the total, the country's Interior Ministry revealed Tuesday — marking the highest such figure ever documented.

Neo-Nazis and right-wing extremists were responsible for 42,544 of those crimes, the ministry's data showed. Within that figure, 8,396 were classified as xenophobic hate crimes, while 4,138 targeted religious communities through verbal or physical attacks — spanning both Islamophobic and antisemitic incidents.

Violent assaults by right-wing extremists climbed to their highest level since 2017, with 1,598 attacks recorded against migrants, refugees, and political opponents — a rise of more than 7% year-on-year — leaving at least 1,146 people injured.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt characterized the overall tally as a record high, reaffirming that right-wing extremism remains the country's foremost security threat.

"By far the highest number of offenses were committed by right-wing and far-right extremists, demonstrating once again that the greatest danger currently stems from right-wing extremism," Dobrindt told a press conference in Berlin.

The minister also raised the alarm over a sharp surge in left-wing radicalization. Left-wing extremists committed 13,490 crimes in 2025 — a jump of more than 35% compared to the prior year. The ministry's data additionally logged 6,886 crimes attributed to followers of extremist foreign organizations, and a further 1,983 linked to religiously motivated extremist ideologies.
