Commissioners refer measure to November ballot

On Nov. 3, Douglas County voters will decide whether to expand the Board of County Commissioners from three to five members, and if so, how the Board would be composed.

At a Special Business Meeting on Monday, Aug. 31, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners voted unanimously to refer a separate but related measure to the ballot, giving all registered Douglas County voters the choice to continue to elect all County Commissioners, if voters approve the expansion.

The voter-initiated measure will offer voters two options for how a Board of five Commissioners would be composed – either three by district and two at-large or all five by district.

The two measures will appear separately on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Public Hearing Thursday

Petition representatives have filed a protest of the Ballot Title approved by resolution on Friday, Aug. 28. A hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.

This hearing is open to the public. This is an administrative hearing – similar to a court proceeding – so there will not be public comment. Meeting information will be available online.
