Election Commissioners Announce Absentee Scan and Certification Timeline

Cattaraugus County - New York

LITTLE VALLEY -- Cattaraugus County Election Commissioners Kevin Burleson and Cortney Spittler have announced the timeline for scanning absentee ballots and certification of election results for the Nov. 3 General Election.

On Nov. 12, following the processes required by New York State Election Law, the Board of Elections will scan absentee ballots received after the close of Early Voting, dropped at poll sites, on Election Day or postmarked by Nov. 3. Valid affidavit ballots will also be included in this scan. Unofficial results on the Board of Elections web page will be updated after the scan is complete. Absentees received by the board prior to the end of Early Voting have been scanned and were included in Unofficial Election Night results. These results can be viewed at www.cattco.gov/election.

Absentee or Early Vote by Mail ballots must have been received in person by the Board or postmarked by Election Day.  Prior to certifying results, the board must - by law - wait until Nov. 16 for the return of any military/special federal or UOCAVA ballots postmarked by Nov. 3.

Under Election Law, the last day to certify the General Election is Nov 28. However, both commissioners anticipate completing the final canvass before that date.

Once certification is complete, official results will be posted to the Board of Elections web page.
